After high school, LaVena decided to enroll in the US Military. Her father had previously served and she wanted to continue the family tradition.
Nineteen years of age and recently deployed to Iraq, LaVena Johnson had everything going for her. A great education, determination, goals, and a great family. In letters and calls to home, she seemed quite candid about conditions there, both the good and the bad, but was also looking forward to being home for Christmas.
